Rupe Simms
The author examines the ideological history of the Muslim Brotherhood from its genesis in 1928 until 1953, the date Egypt declared itself a republic after 70 years of British domination. He treats this history as a case study and
employs Gramscian theory to interpret his ®ndings. He then applies analytic generalization to the resulting observations to determine how his research might amplify Gramsci’s ideas. Lopuksi, he argues that the Brotherhood pro-duced an Islamic ideology that expands Gramscian thought pursuant to national governance, cultural criticism, formal education, and military defense.
